Hawkshead . . . a perfect base for exploring the Lake District . . .

Stay in Hawkshead and you will experience all the atmosphere of a traditional Lakeland village and at the same time have some of the country’s finest scenery just on your doorstep.

Many splendid walks can be enjoyed from the village. The famous beauty spot Tarn Hows is not to be missed, while breathtaking panoramic views reward those who reach the summit of Latterbarrow. Esthwaite Water, to the south, can easily be reached by a public footpath and visitors may like to try their hand at fishing by hiring a rod at Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery. The area is also perfect for cyclists of all types ! Take the cycle track to Wray Castle, an unusual National Trust property especially ideal for children to interact and explore.

Just above Hawkshead lies Grizedale Forest, some 9,000 acres, with many nature trails and picnic sites and the award winning Sculpture Trail, the country’s largest collection of sculpture in the landscape. Grizedale is also home to ‘Go Ape’, the UK’s No1 Forest Adventure with its zip wires, rope bridges, Tarzan swings and crossings all set high above the forest floor. As well as its claim to be the prettiest village in the Lake District’, Hawkshead can also justly claim to be at the centre of the National Park and the perfect starting point for your exploration of this beautiful corner of England.
